. ZIRCONIA'S DESIRABLE CHARACTERISTICS:
	Fine grained microstructure allowing for honing of sharp edges
	Low friction and low energy surfaces minimize adhesion f cut materials
	High hardness and high toughness promote long cutting edge life
	High hardness for cutting hard, abrasive and tough materials

ZIRCONIUM OXIDE APPLICATION NOTES:

    Fine grained YTZP zirconia (on the order of 1 or 2 microns) allows the honing of very fine, mechanically tough shear cutting edges.  The high hardness of the zirconia permits the cutting of many abrasive materials where hardened steel cutting edges have short service lives.  Where material adhesion to cutting edges is problematic, the low surface energy, low coefficient of friction and highly polished surfaces help prevent deposition of cut materials to extend production time between cleanings.  When cleaning is necessary, the hardness and corrosion resistance of the ZrO₂ allow the use of harsh chemicals or abrasives without destroying the cutting edge.
